I am proud to be partnering with Sophie’s Legacy, a local charity doing incredible work to support children and families during hospital stays. From the moment I began following Sophie’s story, I – like so many in our community – was deeply moved. Her bravery and determination to make a difference have left a lasting impact on all of us.
On a personal note, my own family have experienced firsthand the kindness and care of Sophie’s Legacy when we visited hospital on two occasions with our own son. Their support made a stressful time that little bit easier, and we’ll always be grateful for that.
In honour of Sophie and to support the charity’s ongoing work, I am donating £250 from every project completed. It’s an honour to give back and to help ensure that other families receive the same comfort and care when they need it most.
Sophie's Legacy is a charity dedicated to supporting families with hospitalised children and campaigning for meaningful improvements in paediatric care. It was created in memory of Sophie Fairall, who tragically passed away at age 10 from Rhabdomyosarcoma — a rare soft tissue cancer.
All of the changes the charity is working towards are based on Sophie’s own experiences during her time in hospital. Despite everything she was going through, Sophie spoke out about the things that needed to change — from the quality of hospital food to the lack of emotional and practical support for children and their families.
In her memory, the charity now provides practical help such as covering transport costs, supplying emergency clothing, organising birthday celebrations in hospital, and offering emotional support. They also provide hospitals with snack and toiletry boxes, frozen meals, pizza nights and toys — all aimed at bringing comfort and support to children and their families during an incredibly difficult time in hospital.
Beyond this direct support, Sophie's Legacy continues Sophie’s mission by campaigning for national change in children’s healthcare — including seven-day access to play specialists, improved hospital food for children, meals for parents staying with their child, better training for health professionals in childhood cancer, increased funding for vital research and much more.
